Circus Fun!

Circus Fun is Fern Street Circus’s social circus afterschool program, designed to give young people a creative, active, and supportive space beyond the school day. Rooted in the practice of social circus, the program uses circus arts—not just as performance skills, but as tools for confidence, teamwork, resilience, and belonging. Through juggling, acrobatics, clowning, balance, and play, students learn to take healthy risks, support one another, celebrate failure, and discover their own strengths. Wonders of Travel - Clowning Through The Terminal

What happens when clowning leaves the stage and enters a space as unexpected as an airport?

Through Wonders of Travel, Fern Street Circus brought playful circus performances and interactive clowning to San Diego International Airport, inviting travelers to pause in the middle of their journey and experience a moment of joy, connection, and surprise.

Airports can often feel rushed and impersonal. This residency explored how clowning can transform unusual public spaces by creating moments of human connection, lightness, and emotional release. Through simple gestures, humor, and presence, the performers offered passengers an opportunity to breathe, laugh, and reconnect with their sense of wonder.

The project showed us that joy does not have to wait for the perfect setting. Sometimes, it can appear in the middle of a terminal, between departures and arrivals, when we least expect it.
